REV. SONNY WELDON
Reverend Johnnie L. "Sonny" Weldon, 82, of LaGrange, died Wednesday, March 5, 2014, at Hospice LaGrange.
The funeral service will be conducted at 11:30 a.m., Friday, March 7, at God's Open Door Church of Praise in LaGrange. The Reverend Leonard Hodge, the Reverend Derrill Scott and the Reverend Gene Kirklin will officiate and interment will be in Myrtle Hill Cemetery in Hogansville.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 until 8 Thursday night.
Mr. Weldon was born November 5, 1931, in LaGrange, son of the late Jesse and Annice Nolen Weldon. A lifelong resident of Troup County, he retired in 1997 after serving as Chief of Security at West Georgia Medical Center for 23 years. He also served as pastor of God's Open Door Church from 1997 until 2007.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Weldon; daughter and son in-law, Olene and James Arnold; step-sons and daughters in-law, Ricky Joe and Diane Toney, Billy Ray and Theresa Toney; sister, Linda Weldon, all of LaGrange; two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; seventeen step-grandchildren; and nine step-great-grandchildren.
Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home of Hogansville is in charge of arrangements.
