Johnnie Mae Melton

September 21, 1934 — July 11, 2018

Mrs. Johnnie Mae Elder Melton, 83, of Hogansville, passed away Wednesday, July 11, 2018, at her home. Born September 21, 1934 in Meriwether County, Mrs. Melton was the daughter of the late Mark James Elder and Lou Ella Smith Elder. Having spent most of her life in Meriwether County, Mrs. Melton had lived in Texas for 16 years before moving to Hogansville 3 years ago. She was Baptist by faith, had worked at area convenience stores, such as Virgil's Grocery and Mr. B's, and was a truck driver along with her late husband, Albury Melton. Survivors include her children, Patty Moore (Pete Cook) of Hogansville, Susan Petty (Carl) of Newnan, Rickey Banks of Lone Oak, Betty Fisher of Kannapolis, NC, Mickey Banks (Leigh) of Livingston TX, Jeannie Scruggs of Newnan, Janice Collier (Terry) of Lone Oak, and Judy Waddell (Terry) of Woodbury; brother, Ernest Elder of Lone Oak; sister, Carolyn Floyd of Stanton, VA; 13 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren. Memorial services will be at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, July 14, at the graveside in Myrtle Hill Cemetery with the Reverend Jody Mitchell officiating. The family will receive friends at the graveside from 10:30 until 11 Saturday morning. Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home of Hogansville is in charge of arrangements.
