Johnie Stephens Kent

April 17, 1944 — September 7, 2018

Mrs. Johnie Stephens Kent, 74, of Franklin, passed away Friday, September 7, 2018, at Piedmont Fayette Hospital in Fayetteville. Mrs. Kent was born April 17, 1944, daughter of the late Joel Wilson Stephens and Sara Jackson Stephens. A lifelong resident of Heard County, she was employed by Playtex International and then by Eckerd Drug Company for thirty years. She enjoyed participating in activities at the Franklin Senior Center and had served as a volunteer at God's Bread Basket in Hogansville. She was an active member of Corinth United Methodist Church all of her life, had served as a lay speaker and a youth leader, and had overseen the church's outreach program to assist those in need. Survivors include her daughter, Dr. Jody Sloat and her husband Matthew of LaGrange; sons, Bob Kent and his wife Linda, Jay Kent and his wife Anitra, all of Franklin; grandchildren, Jesse Kent, Sara Kent, Lexi Foster, Brittney Whitlock, Nichols Whitlock; great-granddaughters, Harper Kent and Rayleigh Edge; and a niece that she considered a daughter, Ann Devereaux. Mrs. Kent was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Kent, infant son, Little Jack Kent, and brother, Joel F. Stephens. The funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m., Monday, September 10, at Corinth United Methodist Church. The Reverend Darris Baker, the Reverend Richard Campbell, The Reverend Harvey Bane and the Reverend Steve Bullard will officiate and interment will be in Wesley Chapel Cemetery in Heard County. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 until 8 Sunday night. Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home of Hogansville is in charge of arrangements.
