John Willis Denney

MR. JOHN W. DENNEY Mr. John W. Denney, 94, of LaGrange, died Sunday, June 1, 2008, at Hospice LaGrange. The funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 3, in the Chapel of Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville, with the Reverend Alvin Lingenfelter officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park in Coos Bay, Oregon. Mr. Denney was born June 25, 1913, in Clay county, Alabama, son of the late Henry Clay Denney and the late Ellen Elizabeth Dingler Denney. A resident of Oregon for 35 years before returning to LaGrange in 1985, he retired from Weyerhauser Corporation, attended Dunson United Methodist Church, and had been active in the Troup County Senior Center. He enjoyed gardening and music, having sung in several quartets through the years and led Gospel singing at Amberwood Apartments. Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Denney of LaGrange; daughters, Sue and Kenneth Neighbors of LaGrange, Nelda and Henry Young of Mableton, and Rebecca Gentry of North Bend, OR; son, Jack and Ginger Denney of Eugene, OR; step-daughters, Cathy Holmes of Cordele, and Charlotte and Joe Anderson and Cherri and Dan Breland, of LaGrange; sisters, Mildred Rush of North Bend, OR and Anne Anderson of Nashville, TN; brother, Rev. Clarence Denny of Luthersville; 12 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; 8 step-grandchildren; and 4 step-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Avie Denney; sons, Jim Denney and Steve Young; and step-daughter, Connie Anderson. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Dunson United Methodist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 459, LaGrange, GA 30241, or to Hospice LaGrange, 1510 Vernon Rd., LaGrange, GA 30240.
