Mrs. Joanne Thornton Leverett, of LaGrange, passed away Saturday, October 27, 2018, at Hospice LaGrange.
Mrs. Leverett was born April 19, 1932, in Atlanta, daughter of the late Jewell Leon Thornton and Ruth Thompson Thornton. A resident of LaGrange for 44 years, she was a member of First United Methodist Church of LaGrange. She assisted her late husband during the early years of his medical practice, but spent most of her life as a homemaker, loving mother, and doting grandmother.
Survivors include her children, Edward Raymond Leverett, Jr. and his wife Sally of Adairsville, Joe Wesley Leverett and his wife Brenda of LaGrange, Laurie Kathryn Leverett of LaGrange, and Leslie Anne Leverett-Dodds and her husband Kris of Columbus; daughter in-law, Joyce Leverett of LaGrange; brother and sister in-law, Leon and Pat Thornton of Douglasville; grandchildren Traci Ball and her husband Michael, Jason Roberts and his wife Karen, Brittain Leverett, John Leverett and his wife Jessica, Kendall Ham and her husband Ray, Eryn Lokker and her husband Nathan, and J. C. Dodds; and nine great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Edward Raymond Leverett; son, John Thornton Leverett; and sisters, Becky Pettway and Jean Howington.
The funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Monday, October 29, in the Chapel of Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville. The Reverend Kenneth Kulp and the Reverend Bob Humphries will officiate and interment will be in Restlawn Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1 until 2 Monday afternoon.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Florence Hand Home Charitable Trust, Hospice LaGrange Charitable Trust, Troup County Unit of American Heart Association, or to a favorite charity of the donor.
