MRS. JOAN A. WILLIAMS Mrs. Joan A. Williams, 81, of Portal and formerly of Hogansville, died Monday, May 23, 2011, at Ogeechee Area Hospice in Statesboro. The funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Friday, May 27, at the graveside in Myrtle Hill Cemetery in Hogansville, with the Reverend Brandon Williams officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 12:30 p.m. until 2:00 p.m., Friday. Mrs. Williams was born February 13, 1930, in LaGrange, daughter of the late C. D. Armistead and the late Kate Burke Armistead Corbett. A resident of Portal since 2002, she lived in Hogansville most of her life and was a member of First Baptist Church of Hogansville. Survivors include her sons and daughters in-law, Jimmy and Lana Williams of Covington, Jeff and Bobbie Williams of Portal, and Doug and Shea Williams of Signal Mountain, TN; four grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Emmett J. Williams, Jr. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Connection Church, 2 Edmore Ct., Statesboro, GA 30458 or to Ogeechee Area Hospice, P. O. Box 531, Statesboro, GA 30459.
