Miss Jennifer Rose Hillyer, age 38, of the Lone Oak Community of Meriwether County, passed away peacefully Saturday, August 1, 2026, surrounded by family at Piedmont Atlanta Hospital.
Jennifer was born November 8, 1987, and lived her entire life in Lone Oak. She was a graduate of the former West Georgia Christian Academy in LaGrange and went on to earn a degree in Early Childhood Education from West Georgia Technical College. She worked at the Early Learning Center at LaFayette Christian School until her health issues prevented her from working.
She was a lifelong member of Allen-Lee Memorial United Methodist Church in Lone Oak and had a strong Christian faith that guided her throughout her life. She loved taking care of others even though she often needed care herself. Jennifer was the eldest of the children in the family and was often referred to as “Mother Jennifer” because she was always trying to tend to the younger kids. She was a rule follower and tried to keep the younger kids in line.
Her passion was cooking. She loved providing food for family, friends, and church events. From the age of 10, she was asking for cooking items for Christmas instead of toys. She was an organizer and list maker who loved organizing family gatherings and other activities.
She suffered from many medical issues that limited her activities, but she always had a smile on her face and a positive attitude. She rarely showed the world the struggles she dealt with.
Survivors include her parents, Elaine and Gary Hillyer; maternal grandmother, Rosemary Medford, all of Lone Oak; maternal uncle, Mike Medford (Becky) of LaGrange; paternal aunts, Kathy Holt (Dave) and Patsy Hillyer, of NC, Sue Bean (John) of TN, Jeanette Barefoot (Larry) of SC; paternal uncles, Don Hillyer (Diane) of FL, Bob Hillyer (Debbie) and Jim Hillyer (Mari) of MI, Ed Hillyer (Cindy) of NC; great-aunt, Loretta Saucier of LaGrange and great-uncle, Marshall Lee (Marcia) of Milledgeville; god-daughter, Jayden Sawyer; and many other family members, including special cousins, Mandy Sawyer, Rachel Saucier, and Sarah Key. Jennifer was preceded in death by her sister, Miranda Hillyer; maternal grandfather, Erwin Medford; and paternal grandmother, Shirley Hillyer.
A memorial service will be conducted at 12:00 p.m., Saturday, August 8, in the Chapel of Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville. The Reverend Sean Kilpatrick and the Reverend Winston Skinner will officiate and interment will be in Allen-Lee Memorial United Methodist Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m., Saturday, prior to the service.
Jennifer organized and coordinated the Allen-Lee Food Pantry, which helps struggling Meriwether County residents with much needed food.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Allen-Lee Food Pantry. Checks may be made payable to Allen-Lee United Methodist Women, noting the gift is for the Food Pantry, and mailed to Peggy Parker, 4201 Keith Rd., Hogansville, GA 30230.
