MRS. JEANNETTE D. RAINS
Mrs. Jeannette D. Rains, 94 of LaGrange, passed away Tuesday, January 13, 2026, in Lagrange.
Born October 14, 1931 in Lake Village, Arkansas, Jeannette was the daughter of the late Joseph and Mittie Dunn of Dermott, Arkansas. She was married to the late Sgt. Major James W. Rains and was the youngest of 10 children.
As a military wife she had traveled the country and the world. She lived in Germany for a period of time with her husband and oldest son in the 1950's.
Jeannette has worked for the United States postal service, in accounting, fashion and as a social worker. In 1990 she was named Nursing Homes Social Worker of the year for the state of Georgia.
She loved farm living and was not afraid of hard work. She also loved gardening, animals and the outdoors. Her primary passion however was helping people. She also had a deep devotion to her family, always putting their needs above her own. Following her husband's death in 1980, she established careers in both clothing and as a social worker. She lived and worked in Saudi Arabia for a period as well as Greece.
Survivors include her sons and daughters in-law, James and Lana Rains, Steve and Rhonda Rains, and Glen and Nikki Rains; grandchildren, James Keith Rains, April Rains, Jason Rains, and Allison Rains; and 8 great-grandchildren, Wes Rains, Jackson Rains, McKenna Rains, Olivia Layman, Alexandra Layman, Leon Rains, Oscar Rains, and Veda Rains. In addition to her parents and husband, Jeannette was preceded in death by 9 siblings.
A private service is planned.
