MRS. JEAN HOWINGTON Mrs. Jean Howington, 85, of Hogansville, died Sunday, August 24, 2014, at Florence Hand Home in LaGrange. Mrs. Howington was born July 12, 1929, in Atlanta, daughter of the late Jewell Leon Thornton and Ruth Thompson Thornton. A resident of Hogansville for 59 years, she was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Hogansville, where she had served as a Sunday School teacher and was a member of the Annie Pearl Darden Circle. She was the wife of the late Donald Lewis Howington and retired as lunchroom manager of Hogansville Elementary and Hogansville High School after 26 years of service and feeding a generation of Hogansville children. She was always involved in her children's activities and had served as a Band Booster, Girl Scout leader and a volunteer for the Cancer Society. Survivors include her daughters and sons in-law, Donna McDaniel of Covington, Wanda and Bill Lowe of Hogansville, Carol and Kevin Cain of LaGrange; sons and daughters in-law, David Howington of Hapeville, Mark and Sheila Howington of Pine Mountain, Jeb and Melissa Howington of Hogansville; sister, Joanne Leverett of LaGrange; brother, Leon Thornton of Douglasville; grandchildren, Scott McDaniel, Andy and Sandi McDaniel, Lewis Lowe, Cory Cain, Katie Cain, John Howington, Marcie Howington, Anna Howington, Ethan Howington; and great-grandchildren, Elizabeth and Bailee McDaniel. The funeral service will be conducted at 4:00 p.m., Tuesday, August 26, at the First United Methodist Church of Hogansville. The Reverend Helen Henry and the Reverend John Alexander will officiate and interment will be in Myrtle Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 until 8 Monday night. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Frist United Methodist Church of Hogansville. Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home of Hogansville is in charge of arrangements. Visitation: from 6 until 8 Monday night, August 25th, at Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home Services: 4:00 p.m., Tuesday, August 26th, at the First United Methodist Church of Hogansville Interment: Myrtle Hill Cemetery
