Mr. James E. "Jamie" Turner, Jr., 54, of LaGrange, passed away Friday, January 12, 2024, at the home of his mother.
Jamie was born September 10, 1969, in LaGrange and lived in Troup County most of his life. A veteran of service in the U.S. Army, he was employed as a fireman/paramedic by Heard County Fire Department and AMR EMS, and had also served as an Emergency Room Tech at Wellstar West Georgia Medical Center. Jamie was asked to be a runner for the Olympic Torch in 1996, was Baptist by faith, enjoyed playing guitar, and loved the music of Van Halen. He had a big heart, loved everyone, enjoyed helping others, and had a great sense of humor.
Survivors include his children, Kodie and Monty Sims of LaGrange, Lauren and Jake Corbett of Manchester, Shelby and Jason Walker of West Point, and William Turner of Columbus; his mother, Anne Burke of LaGrange; sister, Leanne and Michael Girard of LaGrange; brother, Eric and Robbie Burke, also of LaGrange; grandchildren, Rachel Sims, Marcus Sims, Alyssa Livingston, Roscoe Livingston, J.T. Walker, Jewelia Eason, Davina Eason, Severus Corbett, and Elias Corbett. He was preceded in death by his fathers, James E. Turner, Sr and Danny Burke.
The funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Monday, January 15, in the Chapel of Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville. The Reverend Randall Hodge will officiate and interment will be in Myrtle Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Sunday.
