James Richard Trammell

Mr. James Richard Trammell, 72, of Albany, passed away Saturday, September 24, 2016, at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital in Albany. Mr. Trammell was born October 29, 1943, in Lancaster, SC, son of the late Charlie Trammell and Julia Estes Trammell. He was a draftsman for structural steel for over 42 years and retired in 2010 from Gerdau Ameristeel in Albany. He was Baptist by faith, was a resident of Albany for over forty years, and formerly was very active in the Albany Corvette Club. Mr. Trammell was diagnosed with Type I Diabetes 52 years ago and had recently received an award from Eli Lilly and Co. for diligently managing his condition through the years. Survivors include his dear friend and companion of more than 25 years, Betsy Hill of Albany; daughter and son in-law, Jena and Charlie Shell of Auburn, AL; son and daughter in-law, Michael and Michelle Trammell of Albany; brother and sister in-law, Wayne and Sue Trammell of Moreland; and grandchildren, Chip Shell, Trammell Shell, and Julia Shell. The funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 28, at the graveside in the Luthersville Cemetery, with the Reverend Winston Skinner officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 until 8 Tuesday night. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to American Diabetes Association, 233 Peachtree St., Harris Tower Suite 2225, Atlanta, GA 30303. Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home of Hogansville is in charge of arrangements.
