James Kenneth Shelnutt

March 30, 1938 — March 20, 2016

Mr. James K. Shelnutt, 77, of Hogansville, passed away Sunday, March 20, 2016, at Hospice LaGrange. Mr. Shelnutt was born March 30, 1938, in Heard County, son of the late James Rufus Shelnutt and Julia Prince Shelnutt. A veteran of service in the U.S. Navy, he had lived in Hogansville for 42 years and was retired from James River Corporation in Newnan. He was a member of the American Legion and was a member and deacon of Highland Baptist Church. Survivors include his daughters and sons in-law, Kathy and Sam Brawner of LaGrange, Karen and Richard Shelnutt, Penny and Frank Willingham, all of Hogansville; son, Kenneth Yearta of Hogansville; brother, Terry Shelnutt of Franklin; 9 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ann Laster Shelnutt. The funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 23, at Highland Baptist Church. The Reverend Terry Rainwater will officiate and interment will be in Myrtle Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 until 8 Tuesday night. Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home of Hogansville is in charge of arrangements.
