MR. JIM PORTER
Mr. James S. "Jim" Porter, 87, of LaGrange, died Thursday, July 3, 2014, at his home.
Mr. Porter was born December 25, 1926, in Snowmass, Colorado, son of the late Carl and Zona Porter. An Army veteran of service in the Pacific Theater during World War Two, he had lived in LaGrange since 1969, was retired from LaGrange Landscape and Maintenance, and was a member of East Vernon Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Mavis Porter; daughters and sons in-law, Zona and Ed Harris, Terri and Roy Peterson; step-daughter and step-son in-law, Irene and Scott Spradlin, all of LaGrange; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Dorothy Porter; and his son, Carl Porter.
The family will host a memorial service at 1:00 p.m., Monday, July 7, at East Vernon Baptist Church, with the Reverend S. T. Janney and the Reverend Don Ellison officiating. Interment will be in Lebanon Cemetery at a later time.
Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home of Hogansville is in charge of arrangments.
