Mr. James E. "Jim" Porter, 88, of Pine Mountain, passed away Monday, March 3, 2025, at his home.
Mr. Porter was born May 8, 1936, in French Camp, CA, son of the late Elmer Nelson Porter and Leona Russell Porter Evans. A veteran of service in the U.S. Army from 1953 until 1956, he then served in the U.S. Air Force from 1957 until 1975, retiring as a Master Sergeant. He lived in California most of his life and operated service stations in Napa and Yountville, and was a former chairman and served as a board member of Travis Credit Union for 50 years. Mr. Porter had made his home in Troup County, GA since 2019 and was a member of First Baptist Church of Hogansville and Hogansville American Legion Post 152.
Survivors include his wife, Julia Porter of Pine Mountain; his children, Jolene Fishbeck, Jamilee Porter-Schaffer, and J. R. Schaffer; half-sister, Penny Bailey (Bob); 8 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Tamara Porter.
The funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Monday, March 10, in the Chapel of Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville, with Pastor Greg Morris officiating. Interment will be at 2:30 p.m., at Fort Mitchell National Cemetery in Fort Mitchell, AL
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 10:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m., Monday, prior to the service.
