James Merrill (Jay) Hurst

JAY HURST James Merrill (Jay) Hurst, 44, of Moreland, died Sunday, March 15, 2009, at his home. The funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 18, in the Chapel of Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home. The Reverend Jonathan Porter and the Reverend Tim Hosmer will officiate and interment will be in the Luthersville Cemetery. Born June 21, 1964, at Cape Fear Valley Hospital in Fayetteville, NC, Mr. Hurst lived in Coweta and Meriwether counties most of his life. He was a graduate of Newnan High School, where he was active in the Honors Program and was a member of the Tennis Team; received a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from West Georgia College; and was a graduate of the Georgia Banking School at the University of Georgia. He served as a banking officer and mortgage broker at several area banks, including Wells Fargo. Mr. Hurst was a member of the Baptist church, was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity, and served on the Town Council of Moreland. He was an avid golfer and Bulldog fan. Survivors include his son, William Ronald Ballou; mother, Patricia Cato Hurst of Moreland; brother, John Wortham Hurst of Moreland; nephews, Jack Hurst and Whit Hurst; aunts and uncles, Brenda and David Templeton of Ellenwood, Karen and Russell Stitcher of Moreland, Rob and Susan Cato and James and Dot Cato, all of Greenville; and several cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, Kendal W. Hurst. Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home of Hogansville was in charge of arrangements. Visitation: from 5 until 8 Tuesday night, March 17th, at Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home Services: 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 18th, in the Chapel of Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home Interment: Luthersville Cemetery
