MR. JAMES EDWIN HUGHES Mr. James Edwin Hughes, 84, of Sandy Springs, died Monday, March 21, 2011, at Waterford Garden Assisted Living Center in Dunwoody. The funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Friday, March 25, at the graveside in the Luthersville Cemetery, with the Reverend Scott Hughes and Dr. Ron Hughes officiating. A memorial service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, March 26, at Clairmont Baptist Church in Atlanta, with the Reverend Mike Murphy, the Reverend Scott Hughes, and Dr. Ron Hughes officiating.. Mr. Hughes was born October 25, 1926, in Norcross, son of the late Bradford Wilson Hughes and Maude Louise Nash Hughes. An Army veteran of World War Two, he retired from General Motors Doraville Division, was a 32nd degree Mason, and a member of the Shrine Temple. He was a member and deacon of Clairmont Baptist Church in Atlanta and was a former Boy Scout leader. Survivors include his wife, Gwendolyn Wilson Hughes of Sandy Springs; daughter Angela Hughes, also of Sandy Springs; sons and daughters in-law, Philip and Susan Hughes of Cleveland; Michael and Randi Hughes of Duluth; and Ronnie and Prudy Hughes of Roswell; grandchildren, Scott and his wife, Casey, Jason, Jennifer, Aimee, Nathan, Michael, Jason and his wife, Kristen, Bobby, and Matthew; and great-grandchildren, A. J. Evan, Jackson, and Ava. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Clairmont Baptist Church, 3542 Clairmont Rd., Atlanta, GA 30319; or, to Alzheimers Association, 41 Perimeter Center East, Suite 550, Atlanta, GA 30346. Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Services: A graveside service will be at 11:00 a.m., Friday, March 25, in the Luthersville Cemetery.
