Mr. James Kenneth Hammett, 76, of Grantville, passed away Saturday, May 28, 2016, at his home.
Mr. Hammett was born September 5, 1939, in Hamilton, son of the late Marion Euel Hammett and Doris Baxley Hammett. A veteran of eight years of service in the U. S. Air Force, he returned to Coweta County in 1965, was employed by Eastern Airlines for many years, and attended Hope Memorial Baptist Church in Sharpsburg where he had been active in building the church.
Survivors include his wife, Janette Lord Hammett of Grantville; daughter, Debbie Hammett Guy and her husband, Bryant of Sharpsburg; son, David Michael Hammett and his wife, Brenda of DeBouq, CO; six grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; sister, Marian Dudash of Columbus; brothers, Phillip Hammett and his wife, Bonnie of Chattahoochee Hills, Jerry Hammett and Ronny Hammett, both of Sharpsburg; sisters in-law, Joyce Barber of Gay, Florence Smith and her husband, Bill of Hawthorne, FL, Ruby Winkles and her husband, Asbury of Hogansville, Ann Lord of Senoia; and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Michael Hammett.
The family host a memorial service at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, June 2, at Hope Memorial Baptist Church on Fischer Rd. in Sharpsburg, with the Reverend Joey Perry officiating.
