James Calvin Thompson

Mr. James C. Thompson, age 97, of Greenville, passed away Monday, July 13, 2026, at Hospice LaGrange.

Born July 24, 1928, in Greenville, Mr. Thompson was the son of the late Emmett Walter Thompson and Cynthia Elizabeth Keith Thompson. He was a lifelong resident of Meriwether County, was a 1947 graduate of Greenville High School, and was a retired dairy farmer. He valued education, loved to read, was very social, appreciated our political system, and was a former candidate for county commission. Mr. Thompson was proud of his children and grandchildren and loved all of his family and friends. He had a deep love for his tractors and cows, as well as his bicycle, on which in later years he rode hundreds of miles.

Survivors include his children, Belinda Thompson (Danny) of Moreland, Mike Thompson (Hellen) of Greenville, Shelly Smith (Danny) of Grantville, Rodney Thompson (Cheryl) of Greenville; grandchildren, Adam Brooks, Terah Capell, Tammy Nelson, Heidi Leatherwood, Heather Stewart, Mark Thompson, Walter Thompson, Alicia Smith, Amanda Smith; and a number of great-grand-children, great-great-grandchildren, and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Fay Parker Thompson, and grandson, Chris Brooks.

The family will receive friends for visitation and viewing from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 15, at Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville.

A graveside memorial service will be conducted at 4:00 p.m., Saturday, July 18, in Shadowlawn Cemetery in LaGrange, with Reverend Chad Leatherwood and Reverend Donny Shelton officiating.
