Mr. J. O. Barber, 96, of Luthersville, GA passed away Thursday, April 20, 2017, at his home.
Mr. Barber was born December 31, 1920, in Newnan, son of the late Bee and Avaline Jones Barber. A resident of Meriwether County most of his life, he established J.O. Barber Lumber Co. in Luthersville in 1946 and owned and operated the company until 2015. He served in the U. S. Navy during World War Two, was a member of White Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church, and attended Luthersville Baptist Church
Survivors include his wife, Mae Barber of Luthersville; daughter, Bertha Barber Hughes of Luthersville and her companion Joe Eady; son and daughter in-law, Jimmy and Janet Barber of Hogansville; grandchildren, Kenny Barber, Karen Barber, Susan Garner and her husband Terence, Chasity Posey and her husband Chris, Chad Barber and his wife Kristin; seven great-grandchildren; and brothers, H.E. Barber and Douglas Barber, both of Newnan. He was preceded in death by his sons, Stanley Barber and Rickey Barber.
The funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, April 23, at Luthersville Baptist Church. The Reverend John Pape, the Reverend Joe Felder, and the Reverend Winston Skinner will officiate and interment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in Newnan.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5 until 8 Saturday evening.
