Mr. Ira Lee Walker, 83, of Hogansville, passed away Monday, January 29, 2024, at his home.
Mr. Walker was born October 15, 1940, in Smithville, MO, son of the late Charles Curtis Walker and Mildred Lucille French Walker. He was a veteran of service in the Vietnam War and retired as a Master Sergeant from the U.S. Air Force after 21 years of service. Following his military retirement, he lived in Fayette County for 20 years before making his home in Hogansville in 2015, and was employed for a number of years by Peachtree City. Mr. Walker was an avid outdoorsman and loved nature, animals, bird watching, and his hound dog, Calliope.
Survivors include his daughters, Kymer Walker of Hogansville and Patricia Bergantino and her husband Benny Bergantino of Warwick, RI; grandchildren, Kyle Phillips, Gracie Phillips, Michaela Phillips, Abigail Bergantino, Henry Bergantino; a great-grandchild, Elias Phillips; and several nieces and nephews including a nephew whom he considered as a son, Bruce Wayne Dunlap and his wife Katie Dunlap and children, Hayden, Gabriel, and Evelyn. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Brenda Sue Dunlap Walker; his grandson, Austin Phillips; and his nephew, Joe Howell.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home for visitation and viewing from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Friday, February 2.
