Hiram E. Massengale

Mr. Hiram E. Massengale, 85, of Wedowee, AL, passed away Sunday, December 22, 2024, at Tanner Medical Center in Carrollton.

Mr. Massengale was born August 10, 1939, in Meriwether County, son of the late Grady Allen Massengale and Mary Azalee Massey Massengale. He served two years in the National Guard, followed by service in the U. S. Coast Guard, and was a member of the American Legion. A member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Wedowee, he was a 50-year Mason and a member of Bigham Lodge #53 in Moreland, served several terms on the Grantville City Council, and served two terms as Mayor of Grantville.

Survivors include, Nawana Winkles of Wedowee; his children, Mary Massengale of Newnan, Michael Massengale of Roanoke, AL, Carolyn Combs of Grantville, Jimmy Massengale of Columbia, SC; step-son, Preston Strom of Opelika, AL; brother, Grady Allen "Bubba" Massengale, Jr. of Griffin; six grandchildren, Christy O'Neal, Shane Massengale, Brian Massengale, Jodie Latimer, Scotty Hall, Brittany Massengale; twelve great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild and another soon to arrive. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Jerry Massengale, Jimmy Massengale, and Johnny Massengale.

A memorial service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, December 26, in the Chapel of Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville, with the Reverend Gary Whetstone officiating.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 12:00 p.m. until 1:00 p.m., Thursday, prior to the service.
