Mr. Harry Allen Argroves, 89, of Greenville, passed away Friday, December 4, 2015.
Mr. Argroves was born August 29, 1926, in Greenville, son of the late William and Jewel O'Neal Argroves. A member of the greatest generation, he was an Army veteran of World War Two and was a lifelong resident of Meriwether County, where he was a dairyman, maintained farming interests, provided rental property and had operated a service station. A self-made man, he was larger than life, enjoyed the simple things in life and, along with the help of his beloved wife Dorothy Biggers Argroves, he started with nothing and became a successful entrepreneur. He was a member of Greenville Presbyterian Church, the Meriwether Cattlemen's Association, and served as a Meriwether County Commissioner from 1972 until 1978; however, Mr. Argroves is remembered by his daughters and grandchildren for the great love that he had for his family.
Survivors include his daughters, Angela Hand of Greenville, Andrea (Jim) Harding of Greenville, Harriett (Monte) Sharp of Peachtree City; grandchildren, Allen (Tina) Hand, Tiffany (Edwin) MaDan, Adam (Crystal) Hand, Drew (Sissy) Kirk; ; great-grandchildren, Bennett Kirk, Aidan Hand, Adaline MaDan, Mary Margaret Kirk, Marion MaDan, Theney Hand, Ava Hand, Milzie Hand; sister, Carol Kitchens of Hogansville; and brother, Bo Argroves of Greenville. He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Dorothy Biggers Argroves.
The funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, December 6, at the graveside in the Greenville Cemetery, with military honors. The Reverend Jan Oglesbee will officiate.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:30 until 8 Saturday night.
