MR. H. N. (BILL) JONES
Mr. H. N. (Bill) Jones, 86, of Hogansville, died Friday, May 30, 2008, at West Georgia Medical Center.
The funeral service will be conducted at 4:00 p.m., Sunday, June 1, in the Chapel of Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home. The Reverend Sheila Crowe and the Reverend Marion Shivers will officiate and interment will be in Myrtle Hill Cemetery, with grandsons serving as pallbearers.
Born December 15, 1921, in Heard county, Mr. Jones was the son of the late Wyves and Onie Cook Jones. He was an Army veteran of World War II and lived in Hogansville most of his life, where he was a member of the First United Methodist Church. He was a member of the Hogansville Masonic Lodge, was a past commander of the Hogansville American Legion Post, and was a former member of the Hogansville Kiwanis Club and the Hogansville Lions Club.
Mr. Jones retired from BellSouth and was a member of the Telephone Pioneers. He was a cattle farmer, had been a real estate developer, was a member of the Troup County Cattlemens Association, and was a former board member of the Farm Bureau.
Survivors include his wife, Agatha Jones; sons and daughter in-law, Gary and Becky Jones and Larry Jones, all of Hogansville, and John and Ann Ball of Carrollton; daughter and son in-law, Patricia and Billy Bassett of Roberta; step-sons and their wives, Dan and Mary Ann Purgason and Mike and Linda Purgason, all of Hogansville; sister and brother in-law, Martha Raye and Curtis Hammonds of Newnan; and a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Irene Arbogast Jones.
