George Nelson Neal, Sr.

March 23, 1929 — February 26, 2021

Mr. George N. Neal, Sr., 91, of Greenville, passed away Friday, February 26, 2021, at his home. Mr. Neal was born March 23, 1929, in Talking Rock, son of the late Rufus Patton Neal and Hulda Mae Ponder Neal. A U. S. Army veteran, he served in Europe following World War Two, was a former Golden Gloves Boxer, and lived in Forest Park before making his home in Greenville in 1978. He retired in 1983 from the Ford Assembly Plant in Hapeville, was a member of the Hogansville Church of God and enjoyed gardening. Survivors include his children, George Nelson Neal, Jr. and his wife Becky of Dacula, Mike Neal and his wife Laura of Greenville, Cindy Neal Johnson and her husband Steve of Greenville, Mark Neal of Greenville; sister, Mary Hilhouse of Forest Park; 14 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, and 7 great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Melba Sanders Neal; his wife, Gloria Eason Maddox;.and his great-grandson, Korey Lee Latham. The funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, February 28, at the Hogansville Church of God. The Reverend Randall Hodge will officiate and interment will be in Myrtle Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 until 8 Saturday night. Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home of Hogansville is in charge of arrangements.
