George Edward Mccarty

Mr. George E. McCarty (MSGT, USAF, retired), age 85, of LaGrange, passed away Saturday, July 7, 2018, at Wellstar West Georgia Medical Center. Mr. McCarty was born July 18, 1932, in Newnan, son of the late Nezra Reese McCarty and Laura O'Deal McCarty. He retired as a Master Sergeant from the United States Air Force after serving 20 years during the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He then had a second career with the U. S. Postal Service, retiring from the Atlanta Mail Center. Mr. McCarty considered himself a patriot and loved history. He also was an avid fisherman and enjoyed gardening and caring for his yard. Survivors include his wife, Shirley McCarty of LaGrange; daughter, Teresa Steel of LaGrange; sons and daughters in-law, Michael and Delores McCarty of Newnan, Patrick and Susan McCarty of Grantville; sisters, Dianne and Patricia; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. It was Mr. McCarty's request that no service be conducted. Burial with military honors will be at Fort Mitchell National Cemetery. Claude A.
