George Albert Collins, Sr.

MR. GEORGE A. COLLINS, SR. Mr. George Albert Collins, Sr., 82, of Moreland, died Tuesday, March 16, 2010, at his home. Born June 20, 1927 in Brooklyn, New York, Mr. Collins was the son of the late Archibald and Effie Locke Collins. He was a member of East Newnan Baptist Church, an Army veteran of WW II, and retired as a dock builder from the New York City District Council of Carpenters. Survivors include his wife, Doris Moeller Collins, of Moreland; two daughters, Cathy DiBlasi, of Atlantic Highlands, NJ, and April Joyce, of Hendersonville, NC; two sons, George Collins, Jr., of Moreland, and Gerald Collins, of Grantville; two step-sons, Patrick O'Leary, of Snellville, and Michael O'Leary, of Brooklyn, NY; a step-daughter, Sharon O'Leary, of Conyers; a brother, Jack Collins, of Columbia, NJ; 20 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Joan D. Collins. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, March 18, at the East Newnan Baptist Church. The Revs. Pat Latta and Frank Powers will officiate and interment will be in the Grantville Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 until 9 Wednesday night and from 10 until 11 Thursday morning at the church. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of Mr. George A. Collins, Sr. to East Newnan Baptist Church, 577 East Gordon Rd., Newnan, GA 30263. Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Visitation: From 6 until 9 Wednesday night at Claude A.
