Gaines Williams Harman

Mr. Gaines Williams Harman, age 79, of the Odessadale Community of Meriwether County, passed away Thursday, August 13, 2026, at Hospice LaGrange.

Mr. Harman was born on August 7, 1947, son of the late Claude Peavy Harman and Martha Williams Harman. A graduate of the University of Georgia, he retired from the Southern Company as a department director after more than 25 years of service, having lived and worked in a number of communities. He returned to Odessadale after his retirement to make his home and to operate a tree farm on family land.

Gaines was a longtime volunteer for the American Red Cross, had served as a disaster volunteer at many locations around the country in past years, and was currently serving as chairman of the Central Midwest Georgia Chapter. He was a proud student of the history of Odessadale and the Harman family, and also enjoyed golfing, farming, woodcrafting, and refinishing furniture.

Survivors include his wife, Donna Harman of Greenville; son, Gaines Harman, Jr. and his wife Jori, of Suwanee; grandchildren, Cannon Harman and Claire Harman; and his brother, Claude Harman, Jr. of Greenville.

The funeral service will be conducted at 12:00 p.m., Tuesday, August 18, at Odessadale Church in the Odessadale Community, with Merriman Harman officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends at Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville from 10:00 a.m. until 11:30 a.m., Tuesday.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to a favorite charity.
