Mrs. Gail Sanders Hammett, 77, of Hogansville, passed away Wednesday, July 10, 2024, at the home of her daughter in Five Points, AL.
Mrs. Hammett was born April 24, 1947, in Manchester, daughter of the late Lee Roy and Margaret Mooney Sanders. A resident of Hogansville most of her life, she was employed as claims manager for the home floor covering division of Milliken and Company for 26 years, and then retired as a mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service in Newnan. She was a member of Faith Baptist Church in LaGrange, enjoyed attending theatrical productions, and loved fishing and going to the beach. Her world revolved around her daughters, and they were the most important part of her life.
Survivors include her daughters, Kimberly Jane Shaw and her husband Mac Shaw of Five Points, AL, and Tara Suzanne Stallings of Carrollton; sisters, Perline Woodruff Wingate of Palm Coast, FL and Mary Ellen Hill of Thomaston; grandchildren, Baily Hartman, Anna Marie Hammett (Isael Becerra), Noah Hammett, Brennon Shaw, Carson Shaw; and great-grandchildren, Gage Becerra, Maci Becerra, Kennedy Hartman, and Riley Shaw. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant brother, Lee Roy Sanders, Jr.
The funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, July 13, in the Chapel of Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville. The Reverend Dennis Farr will officiate, and interment will be in Myrtle Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Friday, July 12.
