Mrs. Freda Reid Turner, 95, of McDonough, passed away, Sunday, August 4, 2019, at Sacred Journey Hospice in McDonough.
Mrs. Turner was born December 10, 1923, in Troup County, daughter of the late Herman and Margaret Hurst Reid. She was a 1941 graduate of LaGrange High School, earned her bachelor's degree from Georgia State University in 1970, and retired from the Civil Court of Fulton County after 26 years of service. She was a member of the Fulton County Retired Employees Association, Mu Rho Sigma Sorority, Henry County Genealogical Society, the Jamestown Society, and the DAR.
In 1983, Mrs. Turner and her late husband, Memory George Turner moved from the City of Atlanta to McDonough at which time she became involved with community projects as well as abstracting, compiling, and publishing hard cover books on Henry, Greene, and Heard Counties in Georgia, Turner Chapel United Methodist Church in McDonough, and the Pace Society Family History. In 2012, she was awarded a Lifetime Achievement award by the Georgia Historical Records Advisory Board for her dedication to abstracting and publishing 20 books for genealogical research.
Survivors include her son, Sevis L. Shropshire and his wife Jackie; grandchildren, Christopher Brian Shropshire, Stephanie Elliott and her husband Bill, Lauren Cinnamon; great-grandchildren, Colby Lawton Shropshire, William Elliott, Brittany Crozier, Elizabeth Lightsey; great-great-grandchildren, Gracey Lynn Crozier, Jolene Elliott. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Edward Shropshire, and her brother, Lynn Hurston Reid.
The funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, August 6, at the graveside in Myrtle Hill Cemetery in Hogansville, with The Reverend Terry Rainwater officiating.
