Frances Hardaway Thornton

Mrs. Frances Hardaway Thornton, 98, of Hogansville, passed away Wednesday, November 16, 2016, at Florence Hand Home in LaGrange. Mrs. Thornton was born January 21, 1918, in the Primrose community of Meriwether County, daughter of the late Lee Gordon Hardaway and Carrie Lou Jenkins Hardaway. She was a resident of Hogansville most of her life and a 1936 graduate of Hogansville High School. Mrs. Thornton worked as a bookkeeper and accountant for different banks and retailers throughout her career, and she continued working part-time for the City of Hogansville utility department until she was 85. She was a member of Union Baptist Church in the St. Marks Community of Meriwether County. Survivors include her grandchildren, Jim Thornton and his wife Corinne, Jane Upchurch and her husband Joel, and Jade Thornton, all of LaGrange; and one great-granddaughter, Avery Upchurch. Mrs. Thornton was preceded in death by her husband, James F. Thornton, and her son, Franklin H. Thornton. The funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, November 19, in the Chapel of Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville. The Reverend Bill Smith will officiate and interment will be in Myrtle Hill Cemetery in Hogansville. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 10 until 11 Saturday morning. Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
