Frances Otis Colemon, 84, passed peacefully at home in Tucker on November 13, 2023, with her loving husband and children at her side. Frances lived a remarkable life of love, dignity, and certainty. She had no regrets and passed to her children and grandchildren a legacy of joy in the simple things, determination to do what was right, and acceptance of whatever challenges and opportunities life sent. We, her family, are eternally grateful for every moment we had with her.
Born December 14, 1938, in LaGrange, Frances was the daughter of Cline and Mary Lou Otis and sister of Mary Louise, of Hogansville. In addition to her loving family, she was the recipient of tremendous love from the community in Hogansville, Ga. After contracting polio at age 5, she received medical care from the expert staff at Warm Springs and never forgot the lessons learned there of perseverance, and discipline, and trusting in gradual progress.
Frances had many wonderful teachers while attending the Hogansville Public Schools, and graduated Salutatorian of her class in 1957. In addition to a strong foundation of education, she also received the gift of many lifelong friends. While at Hogansville High she recognized something special in one particular fellow student, Ray Colemon, "Cutest Boy" in the class of '56, and they married in December,1958. There began a great adventure, courtesy of the US Navy, which took them to Honolulu Hawaii, Ville Franche-sur-Mer, France, Texas, California, Washington, DC, and finally back home to Georgia.
Through it all, extended family have been there, and those life-long Hogansville friends, as well as many new friends and neighbors who have become second family. Frances loved every part of being a wife, mother, sister, cousin, aunt, and grandmother and she gave to us that solid foundation of all-accepting love that she had been given.
Survivors include her husband Ray Colemon, of Tucker; children, Raynelle and Perry Still, Cindy and Greg Chesna all of Lawrenceville, and Jim Colemon of Lilburn; grandchildren Julie and Rodrigo Santelices, Stefanie Still, Lindsey Still, and Brian and Cadye Chesna and Holly Chesna as well as her treasured cousins, nieces, and nephews.
A celebration of her life will be held Thursday, November 16 at 1:00 p.m., in the Chapel of Claude A McKibben and Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville, with the Reverend Dr. Zachary Masdon officiating. Interment will be in Myrtle Hill Cemetery, with the Reverend Terry Rainwater officiating.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 11:30 a.m. until 1:00 p.m., prior to the service.
Frances would appreciate contributions to www.preservethepools.org., a fund devoted to renovating and preserving the historic pools at Warm Springs. Additionally, Frances would encourage everyone to go to Hawaii at least once.
