Mrs. Evelyn Flournoy Spivey, 96, of Newnan, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on Saturday, July 20, 2024, at Newnan Health and Rehabilitation.
Mrs. Spivey was born August 22, 1927, in Meriwether, daughter of the late Hubert Earl Flournoy and Lucille Hancock Flournoy. She lived in Hogansville for a number of years, was a member of First Baptist Church of Hogansville, and retired from Callaway High School. In addition, she had managed a restaurant, had been a Mary Kay representative, and had worked in retail and as a certified nursing assistant. Mrs. Spivey had been a member of the Hogansville Senior Center and the Order of the Eastern Star, had enjoyed church activities, loved to walk, and enjoyed cooking.
Survivors include her daughters, Mary "Sue" McMillan and her husband Mac of Newnan and Jean Lee of Grantville; son, Grover "Poly" Spivey of Oxford, AL; sisters, Mae Barber of Luthersville; brothers, Charles Flournoy of Luthersville, Billy Flournoy and his wife Patti of Newnan; 14 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and 24 great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Travis; sons, Dewey Spivey and Joe Spivey; two sisters; and four brothers.
The funeral service will be conducted at 4:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 23, in the Chapel of Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville. Pastor Bryan Calhoun will officiate and interment will be in Myrtle Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m., Tuesday, prior to the service.
