April 10, 1910 — December 28, 2010

MRS. EVELYN SIMS SMITH Mrs. Evelyn Sims Smith, age 100, of LaGrange and formerly of Grantville, died Tuesday, December 28, 2010, at Florence Hand Home. The funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Friday, December 31, at the graveside in the Grantville Cemetery, with the Reverend Wayne Sutton officiating. A reception will follow at the First United Methodist Church of Grantville. Daughter of the late Charles Wesley Sims and Sara Truitt Sims, Mrs. Smith was born April 10, 1910, on a family farm at the Sims Crossroad near Hogansville, on land purchased by her great-grandfather in 1837. She graduated from Hogansville High School in 1928, attended Georgia State College for Women, and married Otis Edward Smith, Jr. of Grantville. She lived in Grantville most of her life and was an active member of the Grantville First United Methodist Church, where she prepared communion for over thirty years. She was a homemaker first, devoting her other time to her church, her plants and her animals, as she loved to see things grow. In 1998, realizing that she had approached the age where she should not be living alone, Mrs. Smith gave up her home in Grantville and moved to an assisted living home, Leisure Living in LaGrange. Survivors include her sons, Otis Edward Smith, III and his wife, Anita, of Stone Mountain, and Charles Wesley Smith and his wife, Jeannie, of LaGrange; her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Sandra Smith and her son, Miller, Ed Smith, his wife, Ann and their children, Will and Zack, Wesley Smith, his wife, Nicole and their daughter, Isabella, Edward Smith and his wife, Laura and their children, Bryson and Laegan. Memorial contributions may be made to the Grantville Cemetery Trust, or to a favorite charity. Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home of Hogansville is in charge of arrangements. Visitation: Immediately following the graveside service, a reception will be held at the First United Methodist Church of Grantville. Services: 11:00 a.m., Friday, December 31st, at the graveside in the Grantville Cemetery Interment: Grantville Cemetery
