She was born in Roanoke, AL on February 18, 1922, to Leonard and Lurline Vineyard. As a child, she had a strong desire to play the piano, and enjoyed taking lessons to develop her skills. After receiving Christ as her Savior at an early age, she found great joy in playing Gospel music and serving the Lord with her talents. As a young woman, she, her sister, and two cousins sang in a gospel quartet throughout Georgia and Alabama. On October 18, 1944, she married Carl Bennett of Roanoke, who was a childhood friend. They had a loving marriage for 63 years, and were devoted parents to their two daughters, Deanna and Lynn. Carl shared Etta's love of music, and often they accompanied each other with piano and mandolin, and entertained at various civic organizations. Carl and Etta were active members at First Baptist Church Hogansville, where Etta served as pianist, choir member, and organist for over 50 years. As a young woman she worked as a secretary at Uniroyal in Hogansville. Later, she began a career with Avon Cosmetics where she excelled and became a District Manager. After retiring from Avon, she enjoyed working in the cosmetics department at Mansours Department Store in LaGrange, where she was known and loved by many friends.
