MRS. ETHEL AMMONS Mrs. Ethel Beatrice Coombs Ammons, 89, of Hogansville, died Wednesday, April 18, 2012, at Hospice LaGrange. The funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Friday, April 20, in the Chapel of Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville, with Dr. Thomas Jackson Tucker officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. A graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, in the Parrott Cemetery in Parrott, GA. Born in Atlanta on December 3, 1922, Mrs. Ammons was the daughter of the late Raleigh Barksdale and Ethel Carter Coombs. She was the seventh of eight children and is predeceased by two sisters and four brothers. Mrs. Ammons retired from Southern Bell Telephone Company with 28 years of service. Her greatest joy was her family and she was a devoted wife and loving mother and grandmother. She was a member of several Baptist churches throughout her life until her health began to fail. She loved children and was a frequent church nursery worker. Her life was a faithful testimony to the love of Jesus Christ. Survivors include her husband of 65 years, Benjamin Clayton Ammons of Hogansville; her daughter, Debra Ammons Downs and her husband, Dr. Joseph Downs of West Point; her son, William Clayton Ammons and his wife, Annette D'Anna of Chicago, Ill.; grandchildren, William Wingate Downs, his wife, Jennifer, and children, Dexter Barrett and Beatrice Lane of Atlanta; Emily Downs Davis, her husband, Michael, and children, Alyse Catherine and Corinne Donnelly of Alpharetta; Dr. Ellen Downs Beaulieu and her husband, David of El Cerrito, Calif; and Dante Michael Ammons of Chicago. She is also survived by her sister, Mildred Moran of Kennesaw; sister in-law, Thelma Ammons of Parrott; and several nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church of West Point, Hospice LaGrange, or the charity of one's choice. Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Visitation: from 1 until 2, Friday afternoon, April 20th, at Claude A.
