Essie Gay Dougherty Gazaway

MRS. ESSIE G. GAZAWAY Mrs. Essie G. Gazaway, 71 of Hogansville, passed away Sunday, September 13, 2015 at her home. A lifelong Christian, she is now at peace with the Lord. Born April 15, 1944 in Delta, Alabama, Mrs. Gazaway was the daughter of the late Cecil and Gay Nell Duke Daugherty. She earned her GED and an associate's degree in information office management. While proud of that accomplishment, her greatest joy and happiness was being a homemaker surrounded by her family. Survivors include her daughter and son in-law, Elissa and Adam Graves of Hogansville; sons and daughter in-laws, Jeffery and Pamela Messer of Newnan and Kevin and Brandy Messer of Hogansville; brother and sister in-law, James and Kathleen Daugherty of San Antonio, TX; sisters and brother in-law, Sarah Williams of Panama City, FL and Violet and Howard Jones of Cleveland TN; and grandchildren, Britni Messer, Trey Messer, and Noah Graves. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Gazaway; former husband, Ruben Messer; son, Lamar Messer; and a sister Martha Nell Daugherty. Funeral Services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. EST Tuesday, September 15, at the graveside in the Mt. Moriah Baptist Church Cemetery in Delta, Alabama with the Rev. Norris Brooks officiating.
