MR. EMMETT J. WILLIAMS, JR. Mr. Emmett J. Williams, Jr., 87, of Portal and formerly of Hogansville, died Friday, January 14, 2011, in Statesboro. The funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, January 16, at the graveside in Myrtle Hill Cemetery in Hogansville, with the Reverend Brandon Williams officiating. Born March 11, 1923, in Heard County, Mr. Williams was the son of the late Emmett Jefferson Williams and the late Lois Pritchett Williams. He was an Army veteran of World War Two and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Hogansville, where he taught Sunday School and served as a deacon. Before moving to Portal in 2002, he lived in Hogansville most of his life, retired as a letter carrier from the Hogansville Post Office after 34 years service, and was a volunteer fireman for the Hogansville Fire Department for many years. Survivors include his wife, Joan Williams of Portal; sons and daughters in-law, Jimmy and Lana Williams of Covington, Jeff and Bobbie Williams of Portal, and Doug and Shea Williams of Signal Mountain, TN; brother, James Williams of Hogansville; sister in-law, Joyce Williams, also of Hogansville; four grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Memorial contributions may be made to Connection Church, 2 Edmore Ct., Statesboro, GA 30458 or to Ogeechee Area Hospice, P. O. Box 531, Statesboro, GA 30459. Claude A.
