Emily M. Conort

Mrs. Emily M. Conort, 95, of Grantville, passed away Thursday, March 7, 2024, at her home.

Mrs. Conort was born January 17, 1929, in Madison, daughter of the late Benjamin Matthew Etheridge and Henrietta Irene Dowdy Etheridge. A resident of Atlanta most of her life, she was employed as a registered nurse before assisting her husband in the operation of Red Bird Grocery on Simpson Street and Thrifty Lady Grocery on Peachtree Street in Atlanta. Mrs. Conort had made her home in Grantville since 2002.

Survivors include her daughters, Nora Maddox of Norcross and Carol Conort of Grantville; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Albert Conort, Jr., her daughter, Frances Conort; her sons, George B. Conort and William Albert Conort III; and her grandson, William Albert Conort IV.

The funeral service will be conducted at 11:30 a.m., Tuesday, March 11, in the Chapel of Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville. The Reverend Terry Rainwater will officiate and interment will be in Resthaven Gardens of Memory in Decatur.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 10:00 a.m. until 11:30 a.m., Tuesday, prior to the service.
