Mr. Elmer Claud "Nig" Thompson, 78, of LaGrange, passed away Sunday, September 5, 2021, at his home.
Born August 4, 1943, in Troup County, Mr. Thompson was the son of the late Hiram Hillard Thompson and Mary Jo Short Thompson. He retired from Newman Construction Company after 32 years of service then was employed by the Troup County School System for 20 years before retiring for the second time. He was a member of Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church, was involved in Boy Scouts for 50 years including over 25 years in leadership positions, and enjoyed providing barbeque and stew for scouts and many others. Known as a great and loving Paw-Paw, he loved hunting, fishing, and gardening.
Survivors include his wife, Sue Thompson of LaGrange; son, William and Marcia Thompson of Summerville; daughters, Wanda and Jim Roberts of Milner, Aimee and Tracey Maddox of LaGrange; god-son, Mark Webb of LaGrange; grandchildren, Laurie Thompson, Leslie Thompson, Linzie Thompson, Jeff Boyington, Jennifer Thompson, Victoria Maddox, Justin Roberts, Hailey Roberts; sister in-law, Eleanor Thompson of Jackson, Seba Lanier of LaGrange; brothers in-law, Clint and Carolyn Perkins of LaGrange, Buck Perkins of Hogansville; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son, Walter "Big Earl" Thompson.
The funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, September 8, at the graveside in Meadoway Gardens Cemetery in LaGrange, with the Reverend Larry Bird and the Reverend Ron Hill officiating.
The family will greet friends at the cemetery from 9:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Wednesday.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church, or to Troop 3 of Boy Scouts of America in LaGrange
