Eleanor Irene Strickland

Eleanor Irene Strickland, 71, of Newnan died Friday, July 29, 2022 at Piedmont Newnan Hospital. Eleanor was born June 29, 1951 on her family's farm in the Stricklandtown community in Meriwether County to Elonza Floyd Strickland Jr. and Irene Smith Strickland. She graduated from Greenville High School in 1969 and attended Berry College in Rome and West Georgia College in Carrollton. She worked in the retail sector. Eleanor lived for a number of years with her mother and tenderly cared for her during her last illness. She loved being with her family and enjoyed attending family meals. Eleanor was gifted with her hands and created works of art in macrame and crochet. As a girl, Eleanor was baptized at Bethel Baptist Church at Rocky Mount, near Luthersville. She enjoyed attending Bible study at the First Church of Christ, Scientist in Fayetteville with her sister-in-law, Connie Strickland. As a young adult, Eleanor attended the Christian church. She was a member of Luthersville Baptist Church and attended Allen-Lee Memorial United Methodist Church in Lone Oak prior to the Covid pandemic. Eleanor moved from Meriwether County to Forest at York in Newnan in 2017. She loved her apartment and enjoyed making friends with neighbors and participating in Bingo, Bible study and other community events. Eleanor was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Dwight Strickland and Darryl Strickland; sister and brother-in-law, Sundra and Travis Davis; and a niece, Dianne Davis. Survivors include sisters, Patricia Bassett of LaGrange, Gloria Dawn Strickland of West Bend, Wisconsin, Lynn Skinner of Newnan; brothers, Floyd Strickland of Greenville, David Strickland and Roger Strickland of Luthersville; nephews and nieces, Ron Veal, Teresa Roebuck, Donna Shelton, Kandy Couch, Paula Strickland, Michael Strickland, Dale Strickland, Jennifer Bryant, Holly Miller, Camille Walters, Rebecca Howell, Robin Carden, Ben Strickland, Sallie Kight, Jane Sreeram and Sara Strickland; aunt, Katherine Jones of Greenville; great-nieces and nephews; great-great-nieces and nephews; and cousins. The funeral service will be conducted at 4:00 p.m., Sunday, July 31, in the Chapel of Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville with Rev. Michael McFarlin and Rev. Winston Skinner officiating. Interment will follow at the Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Ron Veal, Charles Roebuck, Kristian Strickland, Dale Strickland, William Strickland, Michael Howell. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the building fund at Allen-Lee Memorial United Methodist Church, c/o Peggy Parker, 4201 Keith Road, Hogansville, GA 30230. Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
