Mr. Edward John Michalowski, Jr., 66, of Hogansville, Georgia, passed away Saturday,
November 4, 2017, at Hospice LaGrange in LaGrange, Georgia.
"Guapo," as he preferred to be called among the family members, was born January 9, 1951, in
Hollywood, California, son of the late Edward and Geraldine Soukop Michalowski. A veteran of
service in the U. S. Army stationed in Germany, he lived in California and Colorado before
making his home in Hogansville nine years ago.
He was a faithful and devoted husband to Sharon (Loeffler) Michalowski, his wife of 41 years.
Together they raised their sons Christopher (Granby, CO); and Steven (Reno, NV) in Colorado.
He welcomed his daughters-in-law, Maggie and Tess, as his own; and adored his two
granddaughters Kit and Quinn. He was eagerly awaiting the birth of his first grandson when he
passed. It is assumed he is taking it upon himself to serve as Baby Boy's guardian angel. He is
also survived by his sister, Johanna, and brother-in-law, Alan Reid (Long Beach, CA), who were
unwavering in their support of the family during his final weeks.
He was known for his impeccable memory, and enjoyed ribbing those he loved the most. He
loved fishing on West Point Lake on his trusty bass boat, Big Red. His $5 fishing bet was a
favored family pastime; and he kept detailed tabs on what all the gentlemen owed him. A
legendary BBQ master, friends came from near and far to enjoy his culinary creations. He was a
trusted businessman during his many years operating Pinnacle Construction Products.
He was a devout follower of Christ, and a proud and active member of his faithful community at
the Chapel at Franklin. Earlier, his mission work in Central America was pivotal in his
development as a Christian. He truly gave of himself in the spirit of Christ to strangers in need
as well as those he loved.
The family will host a memorial service at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, November 11, at The Chapel at
Franklin in Franklin, GA with Pastor Michael Schneider officiating. The family will greet visitors at
the church, where friends are encouraged to share their fondest memories and carry on his
tradition of good humor. Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home of Hogansville is in
charge of arrangements.
