Mr. Eben Seth “Ebo” Elder, 46, of Hogansville, went home to be with Jesus on Monday, December 1, 2025 after a year-long battle with brain cancer.
Ebo was born December 23,1978 in Newnan, Georgia and was a 1997 graduate of Newnan High School. Ebo was a bible teacher, evangelist, ex pro boxer, and carpenter but most importantly was a loving husband, dad, and grandpa.
Ebo had a zeal for life unlike any other. His passion and drive extended into every area of his life. He was an incredibly gifted speaker, a master craftsman, a loyal friend, and a visionary.
Ebo was nicknamed “The X-treme Machine” and received many accomplishments in his boxing career. He earned three championship belts, appeared on the second season of ESPN’s reality show the Contender and won a fight nominated for “fight of the year” and “knockout of the year” on Showtime in 2004. He also earned a Silver medal for the United States in the 1998 Goodwill Games on HBO at Madison Square Garden. Ebo wrote and published his autobiography “The Great Comeback” in March of 2020 and has sold hundreds of copies, and encouraged many with his story.
Ebo married his high school sweetheart Amy Elder and had four daughters who were his pride and joy. His mission in life was sharing the gospel hope of Jesus Christ, and he dedicated his life to this and led so many to faith and hope.
His family he leaves behind are his wife, Trish Elder; his daughters Mattie Wise, Abbie Taylor, Gabbie Elder, and Addie Elder; his sons in-law, Blake Wise and Bobby Taylor; and his grandsons, Dillon and Micah Wise who called him “Bobo”; and his sister, Heather Bowles.
The family will host a celebration of Ebo’s life to be held at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, December 14, at Southcrest Church in Newnan. The family will greet friends at the church following the service.
