Earnest L. (John) Smith

MR. EARNEST SMITH Mr. Earnest L. (John) Smith, 80, of Hogansville, died Friday, March 1, 2013, at his home. The funeral service will be conducted at 4:00 p.m., Sunday, March 3, in the Chapel of Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville. The Reverend James Calhoun and the Reverend Nicholas Hatcher will officiate. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2 until 4 Sunday afternoon. Mr. Smith was born April 30, 1932, in LaGrange, son of the late Springer and Lena Bell Webb Smith. He was a U. S. Army veteran of the Korean War, lived in Hogansville for forty years, attended Family Worship Center, and was retired from William L. Bonnell Company in Newnan. He was also a carpenter and craftsman and enjoyed woodworking. Survivors include his wife, Mattie Smith of Hogansville; daughter and son in-law, Donna and Glen Dean of Hogansville; sons and daughter in-law, Mark Smith of Biloxi, MS, Earnest, Jr. and Debbie Smith of San Antonio, TX, Edgar Barber of Lone Oak; sister, Jessie Garner of Suwanee; and a number of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, including Jessica Chapman and Nicholas Hatcher, who he helped raise.
