DR. E. R. LEVERETT
Dr. Edward Raymond Leverett, 78, of LaGrange, died Sunday, January 17, 2010, at his home.
The funeral service will be conducted at 3:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 19, at the First United Methodist Church of LaGrange. Dr. Harold Lawrence and the Reverend Kenneth Kulp will officiate and interment will be in Restlawn Memory Gardens.
Born November 16, 1931, in Atlanta, Dr. Leverett was preceded in death by his parents, John David and Janie Harper Leverett, and his brother, J. D. Leverett. He was a 1952 graduate of Emory University, a 1956 graduate of the Medical College of Georgia, and was a practicing physician for 42 years before his retirement. He practiced in Rutledge from 1957 until 1962 and then moved to Hogansville, where he practiced until 1974. In 1974, he moved to LaGrange and joined the Clark-Holder Clinic, where he served until 1999.
Dr. Leverett was a member of the First United Methodist Church of LaGrange; was a member of local, state, and national professional associations; and was active in a number of area civic and charitable organizations.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Joanne Thornton Leverett of LaGrange; his children, Edward R. Leverett, Jr. and his wife, Sally of Adairsville, John T. Leverett and his wife, Joyce of Franklin, Joe W. Leverett and his wife, Brenda of LaGrange, Laurie Leverett of LaGrange, and Leslie Leverett Dodds and her husband, Kris of Columbus; grandchildren, Brittain Leverett, John Leverett, and Kendall Leverett Arndt and her husband, Stephen, all of LaGrange, Traci Ball and her husband, Michael of Armuchee, Jason Roberts and his wife, Karen of Hiram, Eryn Dodds and J. C. Dodds, both of Columbus; great-grandchildren, Mikaela and Carson Ball of Armuchee, Kassidy and Kyle Roberts of Hiram, Hunter and Kayden Arndt of LaGrange; and several dear and special nieces and nephews. Dr. Leverett is also survived by his nurse of 21 years, Nancy Hinckley, who he considered as a member of his family.
Flowers are welcomed, or memorial contributions may be made to a favorite charity.
