Mrs. Dorothy Spikes Garner, age 82, of Gainesville, passed away Sunday, August 7,2016, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville. Mr. Aubrey Lee Garner, age 89, of Gainesville, passed away at home under the care of Northeast Georgia Medical Center Hospice on Wednesday, October 30, 2024.
Mrs. Garner was born January 1, 1934, in Manchester, to Lewis Marion Spikes and Hortense Dickinson Spikes. In her early teaching career, she taught at LaGrange High School, where she met her future husband, Aubrey. She retired from Gainesville City Schools as an elementary school teacher and was of the Presbyterian faith.
Mr. Garner was born December 4, 1934, in Hogansville, to Thomas Sanders Garner and Annie Lee Garner. During his teaching career, he taught and coached football at LaGrange High School, where he met his future wife, Dorothy. He and his family moved to Gainesville, in 1972 where Mr. Garner began his career at City Plumbing and Electrical Supply Company. He retired from work in 2016 and was of the Presbyterian faith.
Mr. and Mrs. Garner were married for 55 years at the time of her death and are survived by their daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Lennie Leneski of Gainesville; son and daughter-in-law, Aubrey "Lee" and Holly Garner of Fayetteville; grandchildren, Elizabeth Leneski Stroud, Anna Leneski, Will Garner and Olivia Garner. Mr. and Mrs. Garner were preceded in death by two infant sons. Mrs. Garner was preceded in death by her sister, Frances Spikes Teaver, and Mr. Garner was preceded in death by his sisters, Mildred Garner Driessens, Mary Garner Trimeloni, and Elizabeth Garner.
A graveside family memorial service for both Aubrey and Dorothy Garner was conducted at Restlawn Memorial Gardens in LaGrange, on Saturday, November 30, 2024, at 12:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers the family has requested memorial contributions be made to Hospice of Northeast Georgia Medical Center, 2150 Limestone Parkway Suite 222, Gainesville, GA 30501., www.nghs.com/foundation/hospice/
