Mrs. Dorothy Ashley Braswell, 92, of Hogansville, passed away Thursday, December 21, 2023, at Florence Hand Home in LaGrange. She was affectionately known as "Sister" by the Ashleys and as "Dot" by the Braswells.
She was born July 21, 1931, in Heard County and moved to Hogansville at the age of 10. She was a member of the Hogansville Church of God and loved reading her Bible. She also enjoyed working with her flowers, canning, listening to music, and telling stories of the past.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Wilbert Ashley, Sr. and Annie Elizabeth Lewis Ashley; her husband, Winston L. Braswell, Sr.; daughter, Rebecca Ann "Becky" Braswell Steeley; son, David Ashley Braswell; brothers, Harlis Ashley, Jodie Ashley, Wilbert "Junior" Ashley, Jr., Robert Ashley, Fletcher "Bunchie" Ashley; and sisters, Angeline Farmer, and JoAnn Pike.
Survivors include her son, Winston L. "Lanny" Braswell, Jr. and his wife Carol; daughters, Carol Braswell Langley and Kaye Braswell Hodge and her husband Randall, all of Hogansville; sister, Wilberta Ashley Clingenpeel and her husband Herman of Aliquippa, PA; 14 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; and a multitude of nieces and nephews that she loved dearly.
The funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, December 23, in the Chapel of Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville. The Reverend Randall Hodge will officiate and interment will be in Myrtle Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Friday, December 22.
