Dewey G. Rabun

Mr. Dewey G. Rabun, 76, of Hogansville, passed away Wednesday, December 20, 2017, at Hospice LaGrange. Mr. Rabun was born March 29, 1941, in Harlan County, Kentucky, son of the late Buster Bynom Rabun and Hassie Green Rabun. A veteran of the Vietnam War, he served nine years in the U. S. Army, had been a resident of Hogansville for the past forty years, and was a graduate of West Georgia Technical College. He worked for a number of years at Milliken and Company and at Shorewood Packaging, retired as maintenance supervisor from Interface Flooring, and had owned and operated an appliance repair and installation service for a number of years. He was a deacon of Rock of Ages Baptist Church and had served with his wife as foster parents for more than twenty years. Survivors include his daughter and son in-law, P J and Jim Elliston of LaGrange; son, Jason Steele of Hogansville; daughter in-law, Katy Rabun of LaGrange; grandchildren, Drew Elliston, Kenzie Elliston, James and Pam Rabun, Michael and Mileigh Rabun, Matt Rabun, and Liz Rabun; and great-grandchildren, Taylor Rabun, Piper Rabun, Benjamin Rabun; sister, Lorraine Dunlap of Dalton; brothers, Tommy Rabun of Tyrone, David Rabun of North Carolina. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Jean Rabun on December 1, 2017 and by his son, Clint Rabun on May 20, 2017. The funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, December 23, in the Chapel of Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home. The Reverend Randall Dunlap will officiate and interment will be in Myrtle Hill Cemetery The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 10 until 11 Saturday morning. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to West Georgia Hospice or to the American Cancer Society. Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
