MR. DAVID G. WHITLEY
Mr. David G. Whitley, 85, of Dalton and formerly of LaGrange, died Friday, December 10, 2010, at Ridgewood Manor in Dalton.
The funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, December 12, in the Chapel of Claude A McKibben and Sons Funeral Home, with the Reverend Aaron McCollough and the Reverend Bryan Geter officiating. Interment will be in Shadowlawn Cemetery in LaGrange, with Masonic rites.
Mr. Whitley was born August 1, 1925, in LaGrange, son of the late Charlie and Lottie Nix Whitley. An Army veteran of the European Theater in World War Two, he was wounded three times and received a Bronze Star and Purple Heart. He lived in LaGrange most of his life before making his home in Dalton in 2007 and retired from the Georgia Insurance Commissioner's Office. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church, Elm City Masonic Lodge #544, Scottish Rite of Columbus, the Shrine Temple in Atlanta, and the LaGrange Shrine Club. He had been a member of the LaGrange Optimist Club, the VFW, DAV, and American Legion.
Survivors include his son and daughter in-law, Lamar and Barbie Whitley; daughter and son in-law, Dale and Clifford Hosey; grandchildren, Danielle and Harold Cline, Danny Stogner, Jr. and his wife, Brenda, Benji and Whitney Whitley, Haley Whitley, Michael Bradley; great-grandchildren, Zoie, Grayden, and Trey; special friend, Mildred Williams and her son, Arvin Smith, of Dalton; sisters, Alberta Hamilton of Mulberry, FL, Louise Clark of Buchanan; brothers, Elbert Whitley of Kennesaw, Ernest Whitley of LaGrange, Bobby Whitley of Pine Mountain. He was preceded in death by his son, Felton Whitley.
