David Carl Rakestraw

Mr. David Carl Rakestraw, 67, of Franklin, passed away Sunday, June 16, 2024, at his home.

Mr. Rakestraw was born August 16, 1956, in Newnan, and was a veteran of service in the U.S. Marine Corps. He was a long-time resident of Heard County, was a retired mechanic, and enjoyed riding and restoring motorcycles.

Survivors include his son, Marcus Rakestraw and his wife Lauren of Hogansville; sister, Julie Cook of Whitesburg; brothers, Micheal Davenport and his wife PokYe of Whitewater, WI and Blake Davenport of Whitesburg; grandchildren, Dylan, Jackson, Noah, Destiny, Payton, and Parker. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Holly Rakestraw; his father, Carl Reid Rakestraw; and his mother, Ann Ward Reynolds.

A memorial service will be conducted at 3:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 19, at Grace Covenant Worship Center in Hogansville, with the Reverend Jim Weathers and the Reverend Barney Howard officiating.

The family will receive friends at the church from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m., Wednesday, prior to the service.
