Mr. David Edward Bates, 76, of Douglasville, passed away Thursday, June 20, 2019, at Wellstar Kennestone Hospital in Marietta.
Mr. Bates was born April 20, 1943, in Clarke County, son of the late Roscoe Matthew Bates and Myrtie Loue Perry Bates. A veteran of service in the U. S. Army from 1961 until 1964, he was a longtime resident of Douglas County, was a retired long-distance truck driver, was Baptist by faith, and had been involved with Promise Keepers. He loved playing his guitar, enjoyed collecting old records and other items, but especially loved being with his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Faye Rainwater Bates; daughter, Joanna Madlena and her husband Don; son, Michael Bates and his wife Candy, all of Douglasville; ten grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
The funeral service will be conducted at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, June 22, in the Chapel of Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville. The Reverend Terry Rainwater will officiate and interment with military honors will be in Georgia National Cemetery in Canton
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1 until 3 Saturday afternoon.
